The traditional salwar kameez began its journey from Punjab and today it has made a place almost in all the wardrobes of the most fashionable and elite ladies of the West. The ensemble comprises of three parts.

A tunic of desired length forms the upper garment called ‘Kameez’ or ‘Kurta’, and the lower portion is either a loose trouser like pajama called ‘Salwar’, or a completely fitted-to-the-leg pant called ‘Churidar’. Third is the ‘Dupatta’, usually a 2.5 meter unstitched rectangular fabric, draped in a U shape across the chest, or alongside one shoulder, or any other preferred draping style.

Salwar Kameez is worn in India by women. Started as wear by traditional Egyptian people in 10th century, it has gained worldwide acceptance for its comfort ability. Cotton, silk, crepe, net, chiffon, georgette, brasso, brocade, and satin are the Fabrics mostly used in making Salwar Kameez.

Salwar kameez can be used as evening dresses. Evening dresses should always be toned and coordinated as per the venue and company that one has. This is because one cannot afford to go overboard with her make-up and styling at a place where the occasion calls for a sober dress.
